The upcoming TV anime adaptation of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You has officially revealed its lead voice actors. The anime is currently slated for release in 2026.

The series began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) on March 9, 2022, and its first episode has garnered over 280,000 likes. It is now also being serialized in Square Enix’s monthly magazine Big Gangan. The manga won first place in the Web Manga category of the Next Manga Awards 2022. As of July 2025, the series has surpassed 2.5 million copies in circulation. The latest installment volume 7 is scheduled for release on July 25.
Square Enix publishes the series in English and describes the story as follows:
At age forty-five, office worker Sasaki has had enough of the corporate grind. His only solace is smoking-and the friendly smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. When Sasaki can’t find Yamada after a particularly trying day, a striking woman invites him to smoke with her. The despondent man thinks he’s made a new smoking buddy in the cool, teasing Tayama, but Sasaki doesn’t realize he already knows her!
