ONE PIECE’s Luffy Cheers on Japan’s National Football Team

Crunchyroll streams the anime.

As the World Cup approaches, Japan has teamed up with ONE PIECE to support its national football team, the SAMURAI BLUE. The promotional video will be available until August 31.

Over the past week, creator Eiichiro Oda and the ONE PIECE franchise have celebrated the team through a special campaign. The highlight is a promotional trailer featuring the Straw Hat Pirates alongside Japan’s players, including a special version of Luffy wearing a blue Straw Hat inspired by the national team.

Meanwhile, the ONE PIECE anime returned with the Elbaph Arc on April 5. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Now 26 years since the series’ TV premiere, “ONE PIECE” has taken its place as part of mainstream pop culture, attracting fans of all ages. Today, the franchise encompasses 15 feature films, numerous video games, a trading card game and a constantly growing catalog of licensed apparel, footwear, accessories, toys, games, sporting goods, stationary, gifts, novelties, household goods, books, food & beverage, and location-based entertainment.

ONE PIECE manga series has achieved a cumulative worldwide circulation of over 510 million copies, while its TV anime has been on air since 1999. The 2022 theatrical release, ONE PIECE FILM RED, became a cultural phenomenon, grossing over 20.34 billion yen at the Japanese box office.
