Mamoru Hosoda’s Biggest Exhibition Announced in Japan

Exhibition to Tour Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

The largest exhibition ever dedicated to Mamoru Hosoda, titled “Mamoru Hosoda: Origin/Exhibition“, will take place across three major cities in Japan.

It will first be held at Creative Museum Tokyo in Kyobashi from June 20 to August 31, then move to Grand Front Osaka from October 28 to January 4, 2027, and finally be presented at the Fukuoka City Museum of Art from January 22 to March 28, 2027.

This exhibition celebrates the 20th anniversary of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Visitors will be able to explore production materials from some of Hosoda’s most iconic works, including The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children. Storyboards, layouts, original drawings, and art boards will be showcased, offering a fresh perspective on Hosoda’s creative origins and artistic journey.

The exhibition also highlights Hosoda’s unique approach as a director, blending influences from animation, cinema, and painting to create highly engaging works. It will further explore recurring themes in his career, including his ongoing creative challenges such as those seen in Scarlet and the universal qualities of his storytelling.

Additional details, including ticket information, will be announced on the official website at a later date.
