Crunchyroll, the global streaming platform, today announces the production of a four-episode, 24-minute documentary series about one of Japan’s most renowned animation studios. Entitled BONES 25: DREAMING FORWARD, it will be available on Crunchyroll from February 13, 2024.
The BONES studio has signed numerous Japanese animation hits, including Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, the My Hero Academia series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and many others. BONES 25: DREAMING FORWARD is produced by Crunchyroll and French company DeltaRocket. Its director Jace, founder of DeltaRocket, has directed over 40 documentaries for French television, including for Canal+, Arte, M6 and TCM.

From the creation of BONES to the production of its most iconic series, BONES 25: DREAMING FORWARD explores its history and achievements, from adaptations of popular manga to unique, original stories. Shot entirely in Japan, the documentary is divided into four parts: The History of BONES, Style and Originality, Successful Adaptations and Metallic Rouge: The Future of BONES.
Over 30 personalities appear throughout the episodes, including Masahiko Minami (president), ONE (author of Mob Psycho 100), Shinichiro Watanabe (director of Cowboy Bebop), Kafka Asagiri (author of Bungo Stray Dogs), Yutaka Izubuchi (author and screenwriter of Metallic Rouge) and Motonobu Hori (director of Metallic Rouge).
