CHERRY AND VIRGIN Anime Film Delayed to 2027, New Footage Revealed

Staff has been announced.

Masanao Kawajiri’s feature-length film CHERRY AND VIRGIN is now set for release in 2027. Alongside this announcement, new footage from backers has been revealed, as well as additional staff details. The film was originally scheduled to premiere in 2022.

The video uses rotoscoping, an animation technique based on live-action footage. Its visual style blends real-life sequences with manga-inspired imagery and soft, colorful illustrations.

The story follows Ryo, an erotic manga artist struggling with creative block, and Ami, a “fujoshi” who dreams of becoming a professional writer but feels disconnected from real-life relationships. As two people with no romantic experience, they gradually confront the challenges, pain, and beauty of connecting with others.
