Kuromi is heading to theaters in her first starring role in an animated feature, Sanrio announced Saturday. GAGA will distribute the film in Japan in 2027.
The announcement arrived Oct. 31, coinciding with Halloween and the character’s birthday. Sanrio released a promotional visual and a video message featuring Kuromi, with her sidekick Baku joining the celebration by voice.

An exact release date and story details have not been announced. The film’s official website says information about releases outside Japan will follow once confirmed.
Kuromi debuted in the 2005 television anime “Onegai My Melody” before leading her own animated projects. Those include “Kuromi’s Pretty Journey,” which released short episodes in 2023 and 2024, and “My Melody & Kuromi,” the stop-motion series that premiered on Netflix in July 2025.
The upcoming film adds another milestone to Kuromi’s expanding career. In October 2025, she made her major-label music debut through Toy’s Factory under the artist name KUROMI. Sanrio said additional information about the movie will be released in future announcements.
