The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Anime Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Special Exhibition in Tokyo

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the TV anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, a special exhibition titled “SOS Exhibition: The Exhibition of Haruhi Suzumiya Who Greatly Spread Excitement All Over the World” will be held at Sunshine City Exhibition Hall D from August 10 to August 30, 2026.

The exhibition will feature two main sections: “The Reminiscence of Haruhi Suzumiya” which looks back at the anime’s story through production materials and recreations such as the SOS Brigade clubroom, and “The Phenomenon of Haruhi Suzumiya”, which explores the series’ impact on anime culture and beyond.

Exclusive merchandise featuring newly illustrated artwork, along with a special exhibition guidebook, will also be available.

Tickets are priced at 2,500 yen and are available through Lawson Ticket. A limited ticket set including an SOS Brigade Leader armband is also available for 2,000 yen.

The anime originally premiered in 2006, with a second season airing in 2009. It was later followed by a feature film, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, released in 2010.

Kyon is a cynical and sarcastic teenager. The first day of his first year of high school is filled with hopes of a normal school experience—hopes that are immediately dashed after meeting the beautiful and eccentric Haruhi Suzumiya. Haruhi is athletic, brilliant, and completely bored with life. At Kyon’s accidental suggestion, she decides to create her own club dedicated to finding and observing life’s oddities—like the aliens, espers, and time travelers she believes walk among normal people.
