OVAL GEAR, a new animation studio led by Katsuhiro Otomo. The studio has already started recruiting talent and is currently working on its first project. More information about the staff and upcoming productions will be revealed later.
Otomo is widely known as the creator of the legendary manga and anime film Akira. He also directed projects such as Steamboy and the anthology film Memories.
According to the announcement, Otomo created OVAL GEAR to share the storytelling experience and creative knowledge he has built over many years with a new generation of creators.
The studio’s logo and banner also feature the main character from ORBITAL ERA, a science-fiction anime film announced in 2019 by Sunrise. The project was originally revealed alongside a new adaptation of Akira, but no major updates on either production have been shared since then.
