Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle First Movie Nears Historic 40 Billion Yen Milestone at the Box Office

Limited Shinobu Kocho art by Gotoge arrives on November 29th.

The first Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle film, released on July 18, has now generated more than 38.15 billion yen at the box office after 130 days in theaters. It is currently just 2.6 billion yen away from surpassing the previous entry, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train (released in October 2020), which earned over 40.75 billion yen and remains the highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history.

In addition, as of November 16, the cumulative global audience including Japan reached 89,177,796 people, and the total worldwide box office revenue amounted to 106,370,568,950 yen. This marks the first time in Japanese film history that a movie has surpassed 100 billion yen in worldwide box office earnings.

Starting on the 29th in Japan, a special “Thank You for Visiting” message board featuring illustrations and comments of Shinobu Kocho drawn by original author Koyoharu Gotoge will be distributed to 1 million visitors nationwide as a new benefit.

Key Visuals:

The opening performance of Infinity Castle was nothing short of historic. The film earned 5.52 billion yen in just three days, setting three all-time records in Japan: the highest opening weekend gross, the biggest first-day earnings, and the strongest single-day box office performance.

Aniplex, the distributor behind this major hit, expressed gratitude to fans, stating: “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to the theaters and to all those who helped bring this film to audiences”.

Crunchyroll describes the movie:

Tanjiro Kamado – a boy who joined an organization dedicated to hunting down demons called the Demon Slayer Corps after his younger sister Nezuko was turned into a demon.

While growing stronger and deepening his friendships and bonds with fellow corps members, Tanjiro has battled many demons with his comrades – Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira. Along the way, his journey has led him to fight alongside the Demon Slayer Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen, the Hashira, including Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku aboard the Mugen Train, Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui within the Entertainment District, as well as Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji at the Swordsmith Village.

As the Demon Slayer Corps members and Hashira engaged in a group strength training program, the Hashira Training, in preparation for the forthcoming battle against the demons, Muzan Kibutsuji appears at the Ubuyashiki Mansion. With the head of the Demon Corps in danger, Tanjiro and the Hashira rush to the headquarters but are plunged into a deep descent to a mysterious space by the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji.

The destination of where Tanjiro and Demon Slayer Corps have fallen is the demons’ stronghold – the Infinity Castle. And so, the battleground is set as the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons ignites.
