Toei Animation, DeNA, and Tokyo University of the Arts Launch “GREEN OCEAN” Creator Label

From Classroom to Studio.

On October 27, Toei Animation, DeNA, and the Planning and Development Laboratory of the Department of Animation at Tokyo University of the Arts’ Graduate School of Visual Arts announced the establishment of a new three-party creators’ label titled “GREEN OCEAN“.

Toei Animation and DeNA have previously collaborated on initiatives to discover and nurture young creative talent. With GREEN OCEAN, they aim to take this mission further, providing closer, more practical support for emerging creators through a blend of industry and academic collaboration.

The new label will serve as a training hub for next-generation creators, offering real production experience, fair compensation, and mentorship from professional artists. Toei Animation and DeNA will oversee project planning and sales, while students, alumni, and affiliates from Tokyo University of the Arts’ Animation Department will lead production across various forms of content, including anime.

The name GREEN OCEAN draws inspiration from the 1971 Toei Animation classic Animal Treasure Island (Dōbutsu no Takarajima) notable for its depiction of the ocean in bright green hues rather than traditional blu, a symbolic nod to creativity and innovation.

As its first project, GREEN OCEAN has released an anime short titled “Roar to Namae no nai Monotachi supported by Kawasaki Brave Thunders”. The video features a collaboration with Raul, the mascot of the professional basketball team Kawasaki Brave Thunders, and portrays a fantastical parade of creatures roaming the streets of Kawasaki in a “hundred demon night walk.”

The anime short is available for public viewing starting today at THE KAWASAKI VISION, located in the north exit passage of JR Kawasaki Station.
