The official X account for The Summer Hikaru Died has announced that Mokumokuren’s acclaimed horror manga has only two chapters remaining. The final chapters will be published on October 13 and October 20, 2026, bringing the manga to an end.
The series began serialization on Kadokawa’s Young Ace Up web platform in August 2021 and currently has nine collected volumes. It has received several nominations and awards, including recognition from the Manga Taisho, Tsutaya Comic Awards, Eisner Awards, and Next Manga Awards.
Meanwhile, the anime adaptation by CygamesPictures is currently streaming on Netflix, with a second season in production.
Yen Press publishes an official English version of the manga and describes the story:
It has Hikaru’s face. It has Hikaru’s voice. It even has Hikaru’s memories. But whatever came down from the mountains six months ago isn’t Yoshiki’s best friend. Whatever it is, it’s dangerous. Carrying on at school and hanging out as if nothing has changed—as if Hikaru isn’t gone—would be crazy…but when it looks so very like Hikaru…and acts so very like Hikaru…
