Sunrise Unveils 50th Anniversary Project and New Original Anime Shorts

New key visual and 3DCG anime projects.

Sunrise has unveiled the official key visual for its 50th-anniversary project, celebrating 50 years since the debut of its first anime, Invincible Super Man Zambot 3, which premiered in 1977.

The anniversary celebration will run from 2026 to 2028 and includes a special visual featuring 50 anime series selected from more than 500 titles produced by Sunrise. Featured works include Mobile Suit Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, and Love Live!.

As part of the project, Sunrise announced “Pursuing the Future,” a new initiative that will produce six original 3DCG short anime films centered on the theme of the future. The shorts will be created through collaborations between six studios led by SUNRISE Studios.

The first two projects have already revealed teaser trailers:

Haseo Sugoroku Story:

Heian-era Japan. Twilight. A rain-slicked pavilion where three noblemen drink to a chilling secret. There, Ki no Haseo makes a confession: he played a high-stakes game with a demon to resurrect his late wife. Is it a blessing, or a path to ruin?

Metafear Story:

A girl tormented by nightmares writes down her dreams and names them, hoping to never forget her fears. But one day, a nightmare she couldn’t name transforms into a monster and spreads across the world, plunging it into chaos.
