The countdown has officially begun for the announcement of a brand-new anime project marking the first-ever collaboration between animation studios Sunrise and SHAFT.
Sunrise, the legendary studio behind the long-running Gundam franchise, and SHAFT, renowned for its distinctive visual style showcased in works such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the Monogatari series, have each left a lasting impact on the anime industry.
Now, for the first time, the two studios are joining forces on a new animated production. To build anticipation, an official X (formerly Twitter) account titled “Sunrise × SHAFT New Anime” launched on June 18, featuring a countdown campaign ahead of the project’s reveal.
The first teaser video has also been released, showcasing the anime’s color script and offering fans an early glimpse of the project’s visual direction.
Full details about the new anime will be unveiled on June 23 at 24:30 JST (June 24 at 00:30 JST).
