New character illustrations for Sasaki, Tayama, Yamada, and Suzuki from the TV anime Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You have been revealed. In total, five different character visuals have been released. The anime is scheduled to begin airing in July 2026.

A special stage event will be held at AnimeJapan 2026 on March 28, where Takahashi will appear as MC. Cast members Takuya Sato (Sasaki) and Seena Hoshiki (Yamada and Tamaya) will also take the stage.
During the event, the main promotional video, the main key visual, and details about the theme song were unveiled. In addition, attendees of the stage event and visitors to the TBS booth at AnimeJapan 2026 will receive special original cocoa cigarettes featuring illustrations of Sasaki and Tayama.

The series began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) on March 9, 2022. It is now also being serialized in Square Enix’s monthly magazine Big Gangan. The manga won first place in the Web Manga category of the Next Manga Awards 2022.
Square Enix publishes the series in English and describes the story as follows:
At age forty-five, office worker Sasaki has had enough of the corporate grind. His only solace is smoking-and the friendly smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. When Sasaki can’t find Yamada after a particularly trying day, a striking woman invites him to smoke with her. The despondent man thinks he’s made a new smoking buddy in the cool, teasing Tayama, but Sasaki doesn’t realize he already knows her!
