Overwatch heads to Night City with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaboration announced at BlizzCon

Blizzard and CD Projekt Red revealed a 2027 crossover bringing content inspired by “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” and its upcoming sequel to “Overwatch.”

Blizzard Entertainment and CD Projekt Red announced Sunday at BlizzCon 2026 that “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” will receive an upcoming collaboration with “Overwatch,” bringing content inspired by both the original anime and its forthcoming sequel to Blizzard’s hero shooter in 2027.

The announcement came during the “30 Years of Battle.net With Special Guest CD Projekt Red” panel at the Anaheim Convention Center. CD Projekt Red’s Amelia Korzycka, an expert community and social media manager, and Miles Tost, a level design lead, appeared during the presentation to discuss the growing partnership between the two companies.

Specific Overwatch heroes, skins and other cosmetics included in the crossover have not yet been revealed. CD Projekt Red confirmed that the collaboration will feature content from both “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” and “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2,” with additional details expected closer to its 2027 release.

The reveal comes four years to the day after the original “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” premiered in September 2022. The 10-episode Netflix anime, produced by CD Projekt Red and Japanese animation studio Trigger, follows David Martinez as he attempts to survive Night City by becoming an edgerunner, a mercenary outlaw operating in the technologically obsessed metropolis.

Rather than continuing David’s story, “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” will introduce a new cast and standalone story set in Night City. The sequel is scheduled to premiere Oct. 20 exclusively on Netflix, with Trigger returning to animate the series and Kai Ikarashi serving as director.

The collaboration continues Overwatch’s increasing use of outside entertainment properties for crossover events. The game has previously featured collaborations with anime and other franchises, using its roster of heroes to reinterpret characters through themed skins and cosmetics.

Cyberpunk could be a particularly natural fit. Both franchises center heavily on futuristic technology, cybernetic augmentation and larger-than-life characters, though the dystopian world of “Edgerunners” contrasts with Overwatch’s generally more optimistic vision of the future.

Fans had also been discussing the possibility of an Edgerunners crossover before BlizzCon. Speculation about potential character pairings circulated through the Overwatch community in the weeks leading up to the convention, but Blizzard and CD Projekt Red have not confirmed whether characters such as David, Lucy, Rebecca or other members of the anime’s cast will appear.

The announcement was part of a larger expansion of the relationship between Blizzard and CD Projekt Red.

During the same panel, CD Projekt Red announced that “Cyberpunk 2077,” its “Phantom Liberty” expansion and the game’s Ultimate Edition will launch on Blizzard’s Battle.net platform later this year. The companies are also working together on “The Witcher” content, including a Geralt-inspired Barbarian cosmetic for “Diablo IV.”

For Overwatch, however, Night City will have to wait until next year.

Neither Blizzard nor CD Projekt Red announced an exact release date or pricing structure for the “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” crossover Sunday. More information about the collaboration, including which Overwatch heroes will represent the anime’s characters, is expected ahead of its 2027 debut.
