After two decades of epic storytelling, Makoto Yukimura’s acclaimed manga VINLAND SAGA is officially coming to an end. The final chapter, Chapter 220, is scheduled to be published in 9/2025 issue of Monthly Afternoon magazine, hitting shelves on July 25.

Yukimura recently addressed fans on social media with an update:
“Have all the fans already figured out that there’s a break this month and that the final chapter is next month? Sorry for the late announcement. VINLAND SAGA is taking a break this month, and the final chapter will be published next month, on July 25. The news will be formally announced in this month’s issue of Monthly Afternoon.
I’m sorry, I didn’t finish the manuscript in time this month. Right now, I’m drawing the final chapter. I’ve taken a lot of breaks over the years, and I’m truly sorry, but this will be the last one. The final chapter is difficult! The artwork is taking longer than usual. But I’ll do my best!”
First serialized in 2005, VINLAND SAGA has become a cornerstone of modern historical manga, earning praise for its realistic portrayal of Viking-era Europe, complex characters, and deep philosophical themes.
The first anime season, produced by WIT STUDIO, premiered in 2019. A second season, released in 2023, was handled by studio MAPPA. The anime is currently available for streaming on both Crunchyroll and Netflix. Crunchyroll describes the series as follows:
