As Toei Animation approaches its 70th anniversary in 2026, the studio has launched a new original content label: ETERNA Animation. Dedicated to in-house creative works, ETERNA aims to spotlight fresh ideas, bold storytelling, and emotional impact through original anime.
The first project under this new brand is the feature film FOXING: Kitsuné-tsuki. Directed by Takeru Shinozuka in his commercial debut, the film will premiere as a work-in-progress at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025, ahead of its full release next year. Producer Yoshihide Moriyama (ELEMON, Ring ni Kakero) leads the production for Toei Animation.

Described as a contemporary fantasy story, FOXING explores themes of isolation, imagination, and self-discovery, with inspiration drawn from Japanese folklore and modern society. Shinozuka also handles storyboarding and character designs, drawing on his experience from titles like Dragon Ball Super: Broly, One Piece Stampede, and Digimon Ghost Game.
According to Toei, the name “ETERNA” reflects its commitment to creating works that are eternal in emotional resonance. The brand is guided by five creative pillars: Originality, Exclusivity, Artistry, Quality, and Decency.
With FOXING, Toei sets the tone for a new era of storytelling, one that combines artistic freedom with the studio’s legacy of quality animation.
