The anime This Monster Wants to Eat Me (aka Watatabe) recently wrapped up its Otakon appearances in Washington, D.C., attracting over 1,500 fans across two panels.
On August 8, the world premiere of Episode 1 was screened, followed by a talk session with creator Sai Naekawa, editor Takumi Kamemaru, and producer Ena Hamabe. Highlights included behind-the-scenes stories, a life-sized “Shiori’s arm” prop, and enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Naekawa also held a rapid-sellout autograph session, with fans bringing overseas editions of the manga. The next day featured a live drawing and talk session, where Naekawa completed three shikishi boards of the main characters Hinako, Shiori, and Miko faster than scheduled.
The panel also spotlighted Ehime Prefecture, the story’s setting, revealing the surprise that many U.S. attendees had visited the area. The main visual and trailer were unveiled, along with announcements about the opening and ending themes.
This Monster Wants to Eat Me will stream worldwide (excluding Asia) on Crunchyroll starting October 2.

INTRODUCTION:
“I’ve come to eat you,” so softly utters the mermaid Shiori as she emerges from the sea and takes high school girl Hinako by the hand. Hinako lives alone in a town by the sea and possesses an unusually delicious body that is irresistible to nearby monsters. To ensure that she matures to the best condition, Shiori seeks to protect Hinako—all so that someday, she can devour every piece of her.
