THE LEVELING OF SOLO LEVELING Coming Today on Crunchyroll at 3:30 PM PST!

Take a behind-the-scenes look at Solo Leveling, from web novel to webtoon to anime!

A new documentary series arrives exclusively on Crunchyroll, available now in two parts. THE LEVELING OF SOLO LEVELING examines the incredible journey of this franchise, currently broadcast as an anime on Crunchyroll.

THE LEVELING OF SOLO LEVELING takes us to Korea to trace the origins of the work, first created as a web novel, then adapted into a comic strip (webtoon) which met with enormous success worldwide. Then, in Japan, we meet the people behind its adaptation into an animated series.

In collaboration with AllSo, a Paris-based production company known for its innovative digital experiences and documentaries, Crunchyroll presents a dive into the heart of the Solo Leveling phenomenon. AllSo brings its expertise in working on pop culture projects with renowned companies such as Ubisoft and Red Bull, guaranteeing a rich narrative experience.

The documentary series is built around interviews with over twenty people, ranging from fans to the creators and producers of Solo Leveling. Viewers are first taken to Korea, where we visit D&C Media and Redice Studio, highlighting Solo Leveling’s transition from text to drawings. Then it’s on to Japan, where teams from Crunchyroll, Aniplex and A-1 Pictures, as well as the anime’s director, Shunsuke Nakashige, give a behind-the-scenes look at the adaptation process.

Key Visual:

Episode 1: A Hunter Rises

We go to Korea to meet with D&C Media, the webnovel and webtoon publisher, to explore the beginning of the Solo Leveling journey. Then we meet with Redice, the biggest webtoon studio in the world, following the rise of Solo Leveling from words to pictures.

Episode 2: Second Awakening

Now in Japan, we meet both Aniplex and A-1 Pictures producers, as well as the Solo Leveling anime Director. There we will learn about the adaptation process. We also include a couple of Crunchyroll interviews (Chris & Kanako, from Marketing and Production), to discuss how Crunchyroll is able to push Solo Leveling even higher.

Yen Press publishes the series in English with both the sixth volume of the comic and the seventh volume of the novel released on March 21. Yen Press describes the series as such:

BASED ON THE HIT FANTASY NOVEL, EXPERIENCE THE WEBCOMIC THAT’S CAPTURED THE ATTENTION OF MILLIONS IN ALL OF ITS FULL-COLOR GLORY!

Known as the Weakest Hunter of All Mankind, E-rank hunter Jinwoo Sung’s contribution to raids amounts to trying not to get killed. Unfortunately, between his mother’s hospital bills, his sister’s tuition, and his own lack of job prospects, he has no choice but to continue to put his life on the line. So when an opportunity arises for a bigger payout, he takes it…only to come face-to-face with a being whose power outranks anything he’s ever seen! With the party leader missing an arm and the only healer a quivering mess, can Jinwoo somehow find them a way out?
