The movie version of Anne of Green Gables: Road to Green Gables, written and directed by Isao Takahata, will have a revival screening at 66 movie theaters across Japan for two weeks, starting May 30th.

This event is part of a revival screening project sponsored by Filmarks to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Japanese animation. Anne of Green Gables is a 1979 TV anime produced by Hayao Miyazaki, Yoshifumi Kondo, Masahiro Ioka, and others. Anne of Green Gables: Road to Green Gables is a re-edited version of episodes 1 to 6 of the TV series, supervised by Isao Takahata. Although it was re-edited in 1989, it was never officially released. However, it was eventually screened theatrically in July 2010, 20 years later.
In the meantime, a new TV anime adaptation of Montgomery‘s Anne of Green Gables will premiere on April 5, 2025, on Crunchyroll.
