Shinran: Jinsei no Mokuteki Historical Film Announced for February 2025 in Japan!

Historical anime film based on the life of Japanese Buddhist monk.

The historical anime film Shinran: Jinsei no Mokuteki, inspired by Kentetsu Takamori‘s books Jinsei no Mokuteki and Tanisho o Hiraku, will premiere in February 2025. Alongside this announcement, the website have also unveiled the official poster.

Shinran: Jinsei no Mokuteki is a historical drama that portrays the life of Shinran. The narrative unfolds approximately 850 years ago, spanning the tumultuous transition from the end of the Heian period to the beginning of the Kamakura period.

Shinran: Jinsei no Mokuteki” is the third installment in a series of anime films focused on Buddhist themes. Studio DEEN released the first film in the series, “Naze Ikiru: Rennyo Shonin to Yoshizaki Enjo,” in 2016, based on a Buddhist text by Takamori. The 2019 anime film “TANNISHO” also drew inspiration from the text “Tanisho o Hiraku.”

Ichimannendo published Takamori’s book Tannisho o Hiraku in 2008, and later released an English edition titled Unlocking TANNISHO: Shinran’s Words on the Pure Land Path.
