Renowned Anime Director Tatsuya Nagamine Passes Away at 53

He joined Toei Animation in 1995.

Scriptwriter Ryota Yamaguchi was among those who shared on social media that they had attended Nagamine’s memorial service, held on November 13. According to animator Shota, who worked on Witchy Precure!! ~MIRAI DAYS~, Nagamine died during the summer of this year.

Born on October 6, 1971, in Hino City, Tokyo, Nagamine joined Toei Animation in 1995. He began his career as an assistant episode director on the first season of Ojamajo Doremi (1999–2000). Toei Animation notes that he made his episode director debut at age 29, and his first series director credit came with Interlude, a 2004 OVA based on the video game.

Nagamine went on to direct titles such as Beet the Vandel Master, Gekijoban Dr. Slump Dr. Mashirito Abale-chan, and Eiga Yes! Precure 5 GoGo! Okashi no Kuni no Happy Birthday♪. His other major works include Happiness Charge Precure!, Dragon Ball Super (co-director), and One Piece: Heart of Gold.

He also served as a series director on the One Piece anime, contributing to the Wano arcs and the Egghead Island Arc. Most recently, he worked as a unit director on animated videos created for the 25th anniversary of Ojamajo Doremi.
