Pokémon Day 2026: Winds, Waves and Major Announcements

Big game reveals!

Yesterday, The Pokémon Company celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise with its annual Pokémon Day Presents. The presentation focused on new games, classic returns, and special anniversary projects.

The biggest news was the reveal of the next mainline games, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. Players discovered the three starter Pokémon: Grass-type Browt, Fire-type Pombon, and Water-type Gecqua. Abilities were confirmed to return. The games will release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

A special 30th anniversary Pokémon TCG set was announced for a simultaneous worldwide release, although details were not shared. In mobile news, Red from the original games joined Pokémon Masters EX with his classic watercolor design.

The company also revealed the Game Boy Jukebox, a music device featuring sounds and melodies from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. It will be available through Pokémon Center Online in select countries.

For Nintendo Switch Online, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness was confirmed for March 2026 via the GameCube app, exclusive to Switch 2. Meanwhile, Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen are now playable on Switch and will soon be compatible with Pokémon HOME and Champions.

Pokémon Champions received a new trailer showing cross-play between Switch and smartphones. It will launch on Switch in April and on mobile later this year.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A also received a new trailer for its Mega Dimensions DLC, revealing new Mega Evolutions including Mega Garchomp Z, available now through Mystery Gift.

Finally, Pokémon Pokopia introduced a new Rotom form called Stereo Rotom in a new trailer. The game will release on March 5 for Nintendo Switch 2.

The new Pokémon anime started in Japan on April 14, 2023. It is directed by Saori Den and produced by OLM.

The show first aired in English in the UK in December 2023 on BBC iPlayer. In North America, it started on Netflix on March 7, 2024. Season 2, called Pokémon Horizons: The Search for Laqua, premiered on Netflix on February 7, 2025. Season 3 Part 1, titled Pokémon Horizons: Rising Hope, premiered on January 6, 2026.
