A new anime project celebrating the 50th anniversary of the serialization of Osamu Akimoto’s KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops has been announced. An official website for the project has also been launched. Details about the new cast are expected to be revealed in September 2026. Animation production will be handled by Gallop, returning from the previous adaptation.

Osamu Akimoto’s long-running manga KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1976 to 2016, spanning 201 volumes. The series spawned an anime film in 1985, a TV anime series, two more films (1996–2004), and 27 specials (2005–2016). This year, KochiKame returned for a crossover with Super Psychic Policeman Chojo.

Ryotsu Kankichi, or Ryo-san for short, is an unconventional cop working at the local police station who loves money. Together with famous celebrities like Nakagawa and Reiko, his strict boss Police Chief Ohara, and other wildly unique characters, he gets everyone caught up in all sorts of hijinks!
