To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Shigeru Mizuki, the original manga author of GeGeGe no Kitaro, a new anime feature film titled Kitaro Tanjou – GeGeGe no Nazo is set to be released on November 17, 2023. The film, set in the 1950s, explores the birth of Kitaro and delves into the hidden mystery surrounding his father, Medama Oyaji. The official website of the upcoming anime film has released a final 90-second trailer, showcasing new footage from the highly anticipated movie.
This marks a significant event for the GeGeGe no Kitaro anime franchise, as it is the first theatrical film in 15 years since Gegege no Kitaro: Nihon Bakuretsu!! in 2008. The project is directed by Go Koga, with screenplay writer Hiroyuki Yoshino and character designer Toko Yatabe, known for their work on various anime titles, contributing to the production.
