Mado Kaori’s novel Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to is being adapted into an anime feature film, scheduled for release on July 17. The film stars Shori Sato (timelesz) as the main character Makoto Natsume, with Nanoka Hara voicing the heroine Aki Hayama. Alongside the announcement, the production team unveiled a “super teaser visual” and a “super special video”.

Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to is a youth romance set during the Nagaoka Festival Fireworks Festival in Niigata, one of Japan’s three major fireworks events, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The story follows Makoto, a shy Tokyo high school student who struggles with confidence and social interaction, and Aki, a popular and talented student who also serves as class president. The two are brought together by a single painting depicting fireworks, and as the mystery behind it unfolds, they are forced to make a life-changing decision within a limited time.
