Kenshi Yonezu’s song “KICK BACK”, the opening theme for the Chainsaw Man anime, has become the first Japanese-language song to earn a Platinum certification from the RIAA. Recently, the song has received a remix by the American duo Frost Children.
Released in October 2022, the song performed strongly on several charts. It reached number one on Billboard Japan’s Hot Animation and Hot 100 charts, entered the top 20 of the UK’s Official Rock & Metal Singles Chart, and ranked in the top 30 of Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. It also became the first Japanese song to appear in Spotify’s Global Top 50.

Kenshi Yonezu composed and performed the opening theme song “IRIS OUT” for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, while the ending theme, “JANE DOE”, features vocals by Hikaru Utada.
The film is set to premiere in Japan on September 19, with an international release beginning September 24. In the United States, Sony Pictures will release the movie on October 29. More details here.

STORY:
Denji (Kikunosuke Toya) became “Chainsaw Man”, a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima (Tomori Kusunoki), the woman of his dreams, Denji takes shelter from the rain and meets a girl called Reze (Reina Ueda). The girl, who works at a nearby café, gives him a gentle smile, and they quickly grow close. From this encounter onward, Denji’s everyday life begins to change.

Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.
One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man” — a man with a devil’s heart.
