KADOKAWA and Aniplex Launch New Film Distributor “ANIMEC”

ANIMEC to handle anime film sales and promotion.

KADOKAWA and Aniplex have announced the creation of ANIMEC, a new film distribution company jointly funded by both groups.

At its launch, ANIMEC stated that it aims to specialize in the sales and promotion of animated films. The company’s mission is to co-create value with everyone involved in a project, including fans, content rights holders, and theater operators.

Hiroyuki Shimizu has been appointed Chairman of the Board, while Kei Horiuchi will serve as President and Executive Officer. ANIMEC‘s core business will focus on the distribution and promotional strategy of animated feature films.

KADOKAWA explained that the name “ANIMEC” combines the words “Anime” and ‘Cinema”, reflecting the company’s philosophy of delivering the appeal of anime films to audiences while contributing to the growth of the industry.

The term “Anime” also references the historic Japanese magazine published until the 1980s. Shinichiro Inoue, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the magazine and former Representative Director, Executive Officer, and Chief Anime Officer at KADOKAWA, noted the symbolic significance of using this name for the new venture.
