K MANGA has just added an exciting lineup of new titles, spanning from dark humor to heartwarming tales and award-winning sci-fi. Here’s what’s new:
Junji Ito’s Cat Diary: Yon & Mu:
STORY: Hell-o-kitty! Master of Japanese horror manga Junji Ito presents a series of hissterical tales chronicling his real-life trials and tribulations of becoming a cat owner. Junji Ito, as J-kun, has recently built a new house and has invited his fiancée, A-ko, to live with him. Little did he know…his blushing bride-to-be has some unexpected company in tow-Yon, a ghastly-looking family cat, and Mu, an adorable Norwegian forest cat. Despite being a dog person, J-kun finds himself purrsuaded by their odd cuteness and thus begins his comedic struggle to gain the affection of his new feline friends.
Nanatsu-ya: Shinobu and Her Jewelry Box:
STORY: The new series from Tomoko Ninomiya, creator of Nodame Cantabile, turns its focus on the world of jewelry! Shinobu, a second-year in high school, is part of the family that runs Kurata-ya, a storied pawn shop based in a breezy central Tokyo neighborhood. She helps run the place when school isn’t calling, and she has a natural gift that aids her a great deal-the ability to see the “aura” released by gemstones! Shinobu doesn’t have a boyfriend, but she does have a fiancé handpicked for her by her grandfather-Akisada Kitagami, a man from a prestigious family who wound up being taken in by Kurata-ya at a young age. He now works as a salesman for a first-class jewelry brand, but he’s also got more than his fair share of secrets…
Cat Companions MaRuRu and Hachi:
STORY: Maruru lived a pampered life till one day, he ran after a flock of sparrows and couldn’t find his way back home. He encounters Hachi, a tough stray, who says he doesn’t need a spoiled house cat on his territory and chases him away. But then Maruru helps Hachi out of a jam, and they team up to face life on the street together.
The Darwin Incident:
STORY: The Animal Liberation Alliance, an eco-terrorist organization, rescues a pregnant chimpanzee from an animal testing lab-only for it to give birth to a half-human, half-chimpanzee “humanzee” named Charlie! Fifteen years later, Charlie’s human foster parents are finally ready to send him to a normal high school, where he makes his first friend: a human girl named Lucy. In the meantime, however, the ALA’s stance has become ever more extreme, and now they’re here to drag Charlie into their terrorist plot… Winner of the prestigious Manga Taisho, as well as an Excellence Award at the Japanese Media Arts Festival, The Darwin Incident is as action-packed as it is socially relevant!
Love, That’s an Understatement:
STORY: Spare eraser? Check. Extra folding umbrella? Check. First aid kit? Check. Cool and collected high school student Risa Amakawa has something in her heavy bag for every situation, and the last thing she needs-or knows how to ask for-is anyone’s help. When she saves a beat-up delinquent in the park one rainy evening, she refuses any sort of repayment. But it turns out that saving the notorious Zen Ohira buys her the attention of some unsavory characters. As Zen keeps swooping in to help her out of one pickle after another, her feelings about relying on anyone but herself-and her feelings toward Zen-slowly begin to change… A new romcom from the author of Lovesick Ellie!
Twenty and the Beast:
STORY: In her third year as a working adult, Aya, who has just turned 20 years old, has her first kohai! His name is Yamato Higa-san (age 26). Higa-san is kind and pleasant to be around, so naturally he is very popular with everyone in the department. However, for some reason, he teases only Aya, his trainer, and shows her his alpha male side… With mature, smart Higa-san taking the initiative at every turn, Aya cannot focus on her work…!
