The acclaimed animated film JIN-ROH: The Wolf Brigade is set to receive a newly remastered 4K UHD Blu-ray edition in Japan on March 25. The release will feature Dolby Atmos audio, with both English audio and English subtitles included—a welcome update for international fans.
This new edition is sourced directly from the film’s original 35mm elements. Ahead of the retail release, the remaster will be showcased in a series of revival screenings across Japan beginning March 6, where audiences will also have the chance to purchase the Blu-ray early at participating theaters.

Written by Mamoru Oshii and directed by Hiroyuki Okiura at Production I.G, JIN-ROH originally premiered in Japan in 2000 and has since become a landmark of mature, atmospheric anime cinema. This restoration marks a significant return for the cult classic, giving both longtime admirers and new viewers the opportunity to experience the film with enhanced visual and audio quality.
STORY:
In a very different Tokyo, the totalitarian government rules with an iron fist. But a group called “the Sect” is staging demonstrations and challenging the government’s martial law. Constable Fuse of the Capital Police’s Special Unit is on a mission to stop a Sect demonstration when he encounters a girl in the sewers under Tokyo. When he fails to shoot as ordered, he is put on trial, questioned, and “re-conditioned” as a soldier. The dead girl haunts him, both in his dreams and in the face of her sister, whom Fuse has befriended. But Fuse has made himself a target for some very powerful men.
