The acclaimed feature-length anime In This Corner of the World, based on the original manga by Fumiyo Kōno, will return to Japanese cinemas for a limited theatrical run starting August 1.
This special re-release coincides with the 80th anniversary (by year) of the end of World War II, adding historical resonance to the film’s powerful themes.
A newly illustrated key visual by director and screenwriter Sunao Katabuchi has also been revealed to mark the occasion.

The original manga was serialized in Manga Action by Futabasha from 2007 to 2009 and was initially collected in three tankōbon volumes. Later, COAMIX re-released the series in a two-volume edition. Seven Seas Entertainment summarizes the story as follows:
1940’s Hiroshima Prefecture. Suzu, a young woman from the countryside, joins her new husband and his family in the shipbuilding city of Kure. As her beautiful home collapses around her, Suzu must confront the challenges of a new life while coming to grips with a world in turmoil. Unwilling to give up hope, Suzu struggles against the horrors of war to create her own happiness.
