The statement was also shared on Khara‘s official website, announcing that Voyager Holdings, the rights holder of “Space Battleship Yamato,” had granted permission to produce a new anime adaptation and secured the copyright approval from Tohokushinsha Film Corporation.
The official website of Khara also provides some details about the new anime, stating that it will “take a different direction” compared to remake series like “Space Battleship Yamato 2199“. Additionally, the site shares an update on the project, noting that they are “currently focused on planning a new theatrical production, with the goal of beginning production in 2025.”
Anno reflected on how encountering the original Space Battleship Yamato anime nearly 50 years ago shaped who he is today. He expressed deep gratitude and respect for the staff and cast of the original series, emphasizing his goal to keep creating innovative and engaging works of art. Through his work, he hopes to share his passion for Yamato with future generations.
