Good Smile Company has announced a temporary suspension of shipments to the United States following the US government’s July 30 executive order eliminating the “de minimis” exemption for all countries.
In its August 26 statement, the figure manufacturer explained that Japan Post has stopped accepting small packets, parcels, and EMS merchandise bound for the US starting August 27, 2025. This move leaves companies like Good Smile without standard shipping channels.
“We are currently reviewing alternative shipping methods and the prospects for resuming shipments,” Good Smile said, assuring customers that updates will follow as soon as a solution is in place.
The de minimis exemption previously allowed US-bound shipments valued under US$800 to bypass duty and tax. The policy was already revoked for China and Hong Kong in May, but the July executive order expanded the restriction worldwide, citing threats to national security, foreign policy, and the economy.
Japan Post also noted the difficulty of complying with new US Customs and Border Protection guidelines, which require customs deposits and detailed declarations, procedures that remain unclear for transport operators. As a result, other countries including Singapore, Australia, and Germany have also suspended shipments to the US.
This is not the first time Good Smile’s operations have been affected. Earlier this year, US tariffs forced the company to pause pre-orders and later introduce an “Estimated Tariff Fee” for American customers.
For now, collectors in the US will have to wait until Good Smile secures alternative logistics to resume shipments.
