A film by Kenichiro Akimoto.

GKIDS has officially secured the North American distribution rights for ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, the highly anticipated first feature film from director Kenichiro Akimoto. In addition to its North American release, the film will also screen in theaters across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Produced by the renowned animation studio STUDIO4℃, the film is an adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s bestselling light novel of the same name. ALL YOU NEED IS KILL is set to make its world premiere this week at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

MAIN CAST:
Ai Mikami as Rita
Natsuki Hanae as Keiji

The story was adapted in 2014 into the Hollywood film Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Unlike the original novel and the movie, the anime presents a reimagined narrative from a different perspective. A comic adaptation by Ryosuke Takeuchi and Ken Obata was serialized in Weekly Young Jump (Shueisha).

GKIDS describes the main story as follows:

Set in the year 20XX, ALL YOU NEED IS KILL follows the story of Rita, a resourceful but isolated young woman volunteering to help rebuild Japan after the mysterious appearance of a massive alien flower known as “Darol.” When Darol unexpectedly erupts in a deadly event, unleashing monstrous creatures that decimate the population, Rita is caught in the destruction—and killed. But then she wakes up again. And again. Caught in an endless time loop, Rita must navigate the trauma and repetition of death until she crosses paths with Keiji, a shy young man trapped in the same cycle. Together, they fight to break free from the loop and find meaning in the chaos around them.
