GINTAMA: Yoshiwara in Flames Arc Gets New Theatrical Adaptation in 2026

This year mark the 20th anniversary of the Gintama anime.

GINTAMA: Yoshiwara in Flames Arc originally created by Hideaki Sorachi has been reimagined as a theatrical film with brand-new animation. The new movie adaptation will premiere in Japanese theaters in 2026.

Alongside the announcement, a teaser visual and a special preview video have been unveiled. Notably, this will be the first entry in the Gintama franchise to be presented in CinemaScope, featuring a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

The upcoming film project will revisit the manga’s “Yoshiwara in Flames” arc, which was previously adapted into eight episodes of the TV anime back in 2009.

The anime series concluded in 2018 after four seasons. In addition to the main series, several films were released, including Gintama: The Final in 2021, as well as a wave of Gintama on Theater 2D features cinematic re-edits of story arcs previously adapted for television.
