The official YouTube channel of the Gintama franchise has released the first five minutes of the new movie GINTAMA -Yoshiwara in Flames-. The film opened in 350 theaters across Japan on February 13. It ranked second at the box office during its opening weekend and has now earned more than 1 billion yen in total.
The film presents a brand-new animated adaptation of the fan-favorite “Yoshiwara in Flames” arc from Gintama.

The film’s official account on X (Twitter) also announced that the movie will be released in several Asian territories. These include Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. This is the first time the Yoshiwara in Flames arc will receive a theatrical release outside Japan.
A special bonus will also be available during the fourth week of screenings. Theatergoers will receive an illustrated board featuring the teaser visual and a thank-you message signed by Hideaki Sorachi, the original manga creator.

The upcoming film project will revisit the manga’s “Yoshiwara in Flames” arc, which was previously adapted into eight episodes of the TV anime back in 2009.
The anime series concluded in 2018 after four seasons. In addition to the main series, several films were released, including Gintama: The Final in 2021, as well as a wave of Gintama on Theater 2D features cinematic re-edits of story arcs previously adapted for television.
