Chimpui began serialization in Fujiko Fujio Land in 1985, with its TV anime adaptation airing on TV Asahi in 1989. The story follows Eri, a spirited 12-year-old tomboy, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she is visited by two aliens, Chimpui and Wanderyu. They inform her that she has been chosen to become the queen of Prince Lululov, the first prince of the distant planet Marl. However, Eri has no intention of accepting this fate. What follows is a lively slapstick comedy as Chimpui and Wanderyu do their best to persuade her, while Eri stubbornly resists.
