Letterboxd has revealed its 2025 Year in Review, with Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc leading the ratings. Directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, the film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga was named the Highest Rated Overall of the year, surpassing films like Marty Supreme, Sinners, and One Battle After Another.
The movie also topped the lists for Highest Rated Asian Film, Highest Rated Animation, and Highest Rated Directorial Debut. The cast of the MAPPA production, including Kikunosuke Toya (Denji) and English dub actors Ryan Colt Levy (Denji), Alexis Tipton (Reze), Casey Mongillo (Angel Devil), and Suzie Yeung (Makima), shared a message of thanks.
In Japan, the film has earned over 10.15 billion yen and sold more than 6.65 million tickets.

INTRODUCTION:
“Chainsaw Man” is a manga serialized in Shueisha’s “Shonen Jump+” that has sold over 30,000,000 copies. In 2022, the series was broadcast as a TV Anime series that was made by animation studio MAPPA (Notable works: “JUJUTSU KAISEN”, “Attack on Titan Final Season”, etc.), creating buzz all over the world. Now in 2025, the episode that made the world go wild during its serialization is coming to theaters as an animated movie!
STORY:
Denji (Kikunosuke Toya) became “Chainsaw Man”, a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima (Tomori Kusunoki), the woman of his dreams, Denji takes shelter from the rain and meets a girl called Reze (Reina Ueda). The girl, who works at a nearby café, gives him a gentle smile, and they quickly grow close. From this encounter onward, Denji’s everyday life begins to change.
The first season of Chainsaw Man was a huge success, with memorable characters and a unique aesthetic. VIZ Media releases the manga in English, Crunchyroll describes the series as such:
Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.
One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man” — a man with a devil’s heart.
