Acclaimed director Atsushi Nishigori (known for THE IDOLM@STER and Darling in the Franxx) has teamed up with leading animation studio CloverWorks to announce an ambitious new original project titled “GROTESQQQUE”, scheduled for theatrical release in 2026 in Japan.
“GROTESQQQUE” is a work consisting of three works with different worldviews:
- Q1 – ÆLIENS
- Q2 – 4649GIRL
- Q3 – NOCTURN: EN CETTE NUIT GROTESQUE

In the teaser movie, the title ÆLIENS appears at the very beginning, introducing a girl with a vibrant, pop-inspired aesthetic alongside a mysterious creature that appears to be an alien. In 4649GIRL, set against the backdrop of a neon-lit street at night, beautiful girls engage in intense battles. The final, NOCTURN: EN CETTE NUIT GROTESQUE, contrasts warm, heartwarming moments shared by the four girls with haunting scenes of them drenched in blood, wrapped in a dark and serious atmosphere.
