When I first encountered Your Forma during the final selection of the Dengeki Novel Prize, I was struck not only by the novel’s high level of craftsmanship but also by the vivid realism of its world.
The cases depicted and the characters themselves felt so authentic, as if I were hearing about events from another reality somewhere close to our own world.
It was as if the story had sliced out a fragment of a possible alternative reality.
What once seemed like mere fantasy—brain implants and humanoid robots—has become a plausible future thanks to technological advancements.
While Your Forma deals with themes and gadgets familiar from many past sci-fi works, what it uniquely portrays is another “reality” where these elements are simply everyday facts.
This raw, immersive world-building remains just as powerful in the anime adaptation—if anything, it feels even more tangible.
The realistic urban landscapes and the lived-in atmosphere emphasize the story’s grounded nature, which in turn highlights the excellent performances of the cast and the thrill of the action scenes.
With artificial intelligence spreading rapidly, everyone today is forced to reconsider how humans and machines relate.
In this Reiwa era, the fact that Your Forma is being broadcast as an anime feels symbolic and meaningful.
As a fan of the original novel, I’m eagerly looking forward to the anime’s future developments.

Official synopsis:
In 1992, a pandemic of viral encephalitis shook the world. The medical technology that saved humanity evolved into “Your Forma”—an invasive information device implanted into the brain. In this world where every sight, sound, and even emotion is recorded, investigating major crimes means diving into the collective data, a job reserved for special detectives called “Electronic Investigator.”
