Midori Tayama’s GIRL CRUSH Anime Officially Announced

First-ever K-Pop-themed TV anime.

Midori Tayama’s GIRL CRUSH is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. A newly illustrated “inspiration visual” by Tayama, along with a “TV Anime Adaptation Announcement Video”, has been revealed.

The series is being planned and produced by TBS TV and ENISHIYA. This marks the first time a Japanese television anime will center primarily on K-pop as its main theme.

The original work is published under the Comic Nicola label on LINE Manga, with eight digital volumes currently available. Thanks to strong reader support, four print volumes have also been released, and the series has surpassed 900,000 copies in circulation. In 2021, the Korean edition received the “New Film of the Year Award” at the 2021 RIDIBOOKS Comic Award.

Comikey publishes the digital English edition of the manga, while VIZ Media handles the print release. VIZ Media describes the series as follows:

Inspired by Erian’s sincerity (and her own unexpected jealousy), Tenka decides that she’s going to audition at a famous Korean talent agency. But although her research powers and ability to memorize moves have helped Tenka excel in the past, the judges seem to be looking for something more than just flawless technique. Does Tenka have a chance at becoming an idol when the only thing she’s good at is being perfect?
