MAPPA Releases Pencil-Style Anime Short for Kenshi Yonezu’s “Karasu”

Beyond winning and losing.

A short anime set to Kenshi Yonezu’s song “Karasu” has been released on YouTube by MAPPA. The track serves as the official 2026 NHK Soccer Theme and was written by Yonezu specifically around the concept of football.

The video is illustrated with expressive pencil-style animation, evoking the imagery of a “manga world” suggested in the lyrics. It portrays a figure relentlessly chasing a ball, while above them a lone crow soars powerfully across the sky.

Rather than framing the journey in terms of winning or losing, the animation captures a more fluid, ongoing struggle where perseverance, motion, and freedom intersect. The recurring image of crows in flight mirrors this sense of unbound progression, blending human effort with a symbolic, almost spiritual sense of movement.
