The 1985 OVA Angel’s Egg is returning to theaters in Japan with a new 4K restoration. The restored version will premiere in Dolby Cinema theaters on November 14, followed by a wider release across Japan on November 21.
North American audiences will also get to experience the restored version, with GKIDS bringing it to theaters starting November 19.

In addition, the art book THE ART OF Tenshi no Tamago, first published in 1985, will be reprinted. The 192-page book includes illustrations and behind-the-scenes articles about the film’s creation. It will be available in Japanese bookstores on October 10 for 4,950 yen (around 33 USD).

The film is also set to premiere in the “Revivals” section of the 63rd New York Film Festival, taking place from September 26 to October 13, 2025.
GKIDS describes the ANGEL’S EGG as follows:
In an underwater city, a young girl takes care of a large egg she holds carefully in her arms – a treasure that she believes is an angel’s egg. A boy with a gun arrives in search of a bird he saw in his dream. At first it seems as if feelings of sympathy are developing between the two. Then, one night, the boy crushes her precious egg.
