Kenshi Yonezu’s “IRIS OUT,” the opening theme for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, has been submitted for consideration in two categories at the 2027 Grammy Awards: best Asian pop music performance and best song written for visual media, according to Forbes. The song is among the entries being considered for the 69th annual ceremony.
The two submissions recognize different parts of the track. Best Asian pop music performance focuses on the recording’s performance, while best song written for visual media considers music created for a film or other screen project. The Recording Academy describes its new Asian pop category as recognizing pop performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages.
“IRIS OUT” serves as the opening theme for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, bringing Yonezu’s music into a story centered on Denji and Reze. Its connection to the film makes the visual media category a natural fit, while the Asian pop category would place the track among a broader group of performances from across the region.
The best Asian pop music performance category is one of five new Grammy categories introduced for the 2027 awards. Its debut gives Japanese pop artists a new category in which to compete, alongside established Grammy fields such as best song written for visual media.
The submissions are not nominations, and they do not guarantee that “IRIS OUT” will appear on the final ballot. Grammy voters will determine which entries advance. The 69th Grammy Awards are scheduled for Feb. 7, 2027.
