HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle Movie Exceeds 4 Billion Yen in 10 days!

This film aims to exceed 10 billion yen!

The brand-new HAIKYU!! anime film “HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle” (released on February 16), In its 10 days of release, the film drew 2.9 million viewers and grossed over 4.18 billion yen! (according to Kogyo Tsushin).

According to Toho, the film’s distributor, the movie “recorded the No. 1 first-week box-office revenue for a film released in 2024”, making it the biggest opening weekend to date and the fifth biggest opening in Japanese box office history! No. 1 at the box office for 2 consecutive weeks!

In 10 days of operation, this figure exceeds the 3.03 billion yen earned by the animated film “THE FIRST SLAM DUNK“, released on December 3, 2022. It also surpasses Suzume in 2022 with 4.15 billion yen!

Toho animation returns to produce the two Haikyu!! FINAL anime films with the animation continuing to be made by the team at Production I.G. Haikyu!! FINAL anime film’s first of two parts, is subtitled “Gomisuteba no Kessen” (The Dumpster Battle). Crunchyroll is streaming all four TV anime seasons of the Haikyu!! adaptation and describes the series as follows:

Based off of the original Weekly Shonen Jump manga series from Haruichi Furudate, Haikyu!! is a slice-of-life sports anime revolving around Shoyo Hinata’s love of volleyball. Inspired by a small-statured pro volleyball player, Hinata creates a volleyball team in his last year of middle school. Unfortunately the team is matched up against the “King of the Court” Tobio Kageyama’s team in their first tournament and inevitably lose. After the crushing defeat, Hinata vows to surpass Kageyama After entering high school, Hinata joins the volleyball team only to find that Tobio has also joined.
