The Crunchyroll Store no longer lists physical manga or light novels following the launch of its redesigned storefront Tuesday. Physical editions of Korean manhwa and Chinese danmei titles have also disappeared from the retailer’s catalog.
Crunchyroll has not said whether it plans to restore book sales.
The change marks a significant departure from the expansive catalog Crunchyroll inherited from Right Stuf Anime, the specialty retailer it acquired in August 2022. Crunchyroll retired the Right Stuf storefront in October 2023 and transferred its remaining products to the Crunchyroll Store.
Many of those books remained available through Crunchyroll until this week’s overhaul.

The new Crunchyroll Store is limited to Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan subscribers. According to the company’s updated support page, the storefront now centers on curated merchandise releases, Crunchyroll exclusives and a smaller selection of collectibles, Blu-rays and apparel. Manga and other physical books are not included among the product categories promoted for the redesigned store.
Customers with open orders will still receive their purchases, including preorders scheduled for release after the transition. Crunchyroll said it will contact customers if any part of an existing order cannot be fulfilled.
The retailer continued accepting store gift cards through Aug. 14. Customers with unused balances after that date have been directed to contact Crunchyroll Support.
Select purchases made beginning July 13 were also designated as final sale. Those products cannot be returned or refunded unless they arrive damaged or defective. The restriction applies only to products marked as final sale, rather than every item sold through the store.

The storefront’s relaunch follows a February price increase across all three Crunchyroll subscription plans in the United States. The monthly Fan subscription rose from $7.99 to $9.99, while Mega Fan increased from $11.99 to $13.99. Ultimate Fan now costs $17.99 per month, up from $15.99.
Although Crunchyroll is retreating from physical book sales, the company continues to operate its separate digital manga platform. The ad-free Crunchyroll Manga service launched on browsers, iOS and Android devices in the United States and Canada in October 2025. It marked the company’s return to digital manga following an earlier service introduced in 2013.

The retail overhaul also arrives several months after Crunchyroll laid off employees as part of a companywide restructuring in March. Previous reporting indicated that the reorganization included changes to Crunchyroll’s e-commerce strategy and the redistribution of certain positions based on location. The company said the restructuring was not undertaken as a cost-cutting measure.
Crunchyroll operates as an independent joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex, both subsidiaries of Sony Group. Sony’s Funimation Global Group completed its $1.175 billion acquisition of Crunchyroll from AT&T in August 2021.
