Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island is making a strong impact at the Japanese box office, becoming the second highest-grossing Japanese film of 2026 so far.
To celebrate its success, the film has released a creditless version of its adorable opening sequence, featuring the theme song “Kutsuzure”, performed by Makoto Tanaka as Hachiware.

The movie adapts the popular Island Arc, also known as the “Siren Arc”, from Nagano’s Chiikawa manga. The story follows Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi as they travel to an island offering rewards and free food in exchange for completing simple tasks.
