The feature-length animated film WE ARE ALIENS has won the Grand Prix, the top prize in the Feature Animation Competition at the 50th Ottawa International Animation Film Festival (OIAF) in Canada, one of the world’s three major animation festivals.
The original anime film was released in Japan on September 25. At just 29 years old, director Kohei Kadowaki has become the youngest director to win the Grand Prix in the festival’s Feature Animation Competition.
Director Kohei Kadowaki commented:
“Since the film was released, I’ve been experiencing days I never imagined. This award feels like a wonderful gift”.
The film also received strong reactions in Japan. On its opening day, WE ARE ALIENS ranked first in audience satisfaction on Filmarks, one of Japan’s largest movie, drama, and anime review platforms. It also ranked first in the platform’s trend rankings for two consecutive days after its release.
A new “Friend Trailer”, focusing on the theme of friendship, has also been released.
