To celebrate, a special livestream and a 10-hour anime marathon will be held on the official Gintama YouTube channel on October 10, starting at 10:00 AM JST. Stage greetings will also be held at 12 theaters across Japan.

On September 26, a stage greeting was held. The event featured Tomokazu Sugita, Daisuke Sakaguchi, and Rie Kugimiya, who voice Gintoki Sakata, Shinpachi Shimura, and Kagura respectively.

Following the official establishment of “Gintama Day,” a ceremony was held to present the anniversary registration certificate. The Secretary-General of the Japan Anniversary Association attended the ceremony, with Tomokazu Sugita receiving the certificate on behalf of the series.

The original Gintama TV anime first premiered in 2006 and continued until 2018, with four seasons released over the years. The franchise has also received several anime movies, including Gintama THE FINAL in 2021, as well as the Gintama on Theater 2D compilation films.

The series also expanded with an anime adaptation of the spin-off Gintama: Mr. Ginpachi’s Zany Class.

According to Crunchyroll’s official synopsis, the story follows:

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
