Goodbye, Lara TV Anime Staff Discuss the Making of Its Analog Animation

Crunchyroll streams the anime.

A staff interview about the behind-the-scenes production of the analog cel animation featured in the opening video of the TV anime Goodbye, Lara was released today, September 18, on the official website of IMAGICA Entertainment Media Services.

The analog section includes five cuts, featuring Mari Otsu turning around, Lara’s profile, and scenes showing rays of light.

Morio Takahashi, Masato Sekiguchi, and Motoko Suzuki from IMAGICA Entertainment Media Services worked on the scene, handling negative development, 4K scanning, color grading, and online editing.

In the interview, director Takashi Koide and the staff explain why cels were used for these scenes, as well as the production process, challenges, and unique appeal of analog animation.
